What’s separate.
A weathered timber fence can carry surface dirt and growth as well as natural colour changes. Its condition matters: soft areas, loose boards and splinters are not cleaning problems to wash away. The assessment should distinguish cleaning from restoration and identify any sections that need repair first.
Paint and stain need their own care. Flaking coatings or damaged edges may limit what can be cleaned without disturbing the finish. The appropriate method depends on the existing surface; fence washing is not a substitute for stripping, preparing or repainting a failing coating.
